THE Q&A: MEET THE MODEL
Kelly has been circulating our LA Tango Community for a couple years although I only met her fairly recently! She’s just earned wins at both Southern California Tango Championship 2019 and the 2019 ATUSA Official Tango Championship in San Francisco. Her easy to love smile, graceful movements and playful personality were fundamental Muse-musts for inspiring us to create our look for Spring 2019. Read up on Kelly who’ll also be featured in our Look Book this coming Fall.

YOUR TANGO JOURNEY: I started learning tango when I moved to LA almost 2 years ago, but dance has been a part of my life since I was 3. My background is in ballet, jazz, and tap, all of which have elements that inform the way I interpret tango. After traveling to Buenos Aires in 2018 for a couple months, and again this year (2019), I simply fell in love. There is no other style I’d rather be dancing!
WHAT IS YOUR FASHION STYLE ON THE DANCE FLOOR? Depends on my mood! Generally speaking, I’d say a simple, effortless kind of look with clean lines. I usually wear a colored skirt with a simple top. I don’t like to look like I’m trying too hard!
TANGO PET PEEVE? When my mascara gets rubbed off one eye from dancing in close embrace (HA!) I guess I should try waterproof?
WHAT DRIVES YOU TO KEEP DANCING? Apart from the fact that it’s my “raison d’être,” I am driven by its mystery. Tango is like an unsolvable puzzle that has endless possibilities but no final solution. The beauty is in the discovery, failure, and infinite iterations that are born with each partner in each dance.
